About JYCS

Julia Young

My name is Julia Young and I am a qualified Counsellor, running a private counselling practice in Worthing, West Sussex.

My approach embraces how our inner selves; including emotions and physical health and external environment such as families, work and communities have an impact upon how we experience ourselves.

I am resistant to labels, including those associated with mental illness, preferring to work with whatever issues you bring, exploring them within the therapeutic hour and sharing in that sense of gradual understanding.

I work with a wide variety of mental, physical and emotional issues, including panic, anxiety, trauma, abuse, mental health concerns, alcohol and drug use, workplace issues, marital/relationship difficulties, bereavement, physical disability and ageing for example.

Sessions are usually weekly and take place at my practice in Worthing, however if you are disabled or frail, I am happy to visit your home, residential placement or hospital.  This is because I am determined that nobody should be denied the opportunity to receive counselling due to disability or frailty.  I have also tried to keep my charges within affordable limits.

Primarily I work in a person centred way inspired by the teachings of Carl Rogers.  I am however interested in many therapeutic approaches and will draw on them during the session, including aspects of Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, and perhaps some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for example.
